I met Alexis and Matt a year ago when I covered their San Francisco engagement party, thrown as a total surprise to the future bride. I knew then that these two were a very special couple with a great sense of humor, and such a caring group of family and friends who know how to have a good time! I was honored when they asked me to capture their big day, and I knew it would be a stunning wedding.
Alexis and Matt met on Tinder, making them some of the first pioneers in forever love from the dating app! They are proof it works. Their first date was in Hayes Valley, where Alexis instructed Matt to “hug her and act like they know each other” upon first arrival. Just a few weeks dating, Matt charmed all of her family and friends, making it easy for the two of them to grow close. They both loved each other’s zest for life, which led to Matt proposing to Alexis on a pier in San Francisco. Afterward Matt walked her to their favorite happy hour spot, where a bunch of their family and friends were waiting for them.
Triple S Ranch, nestled in the hills of Calistoga, has the most gorgeous landscapes and oak trees surrounding the property, complete with a Victorian house, swimming pool, huge barn, and little cottages for couple’s guests to stay in. What makes the ranch so unique is the owner of the venue restored the property with salvage and antiques that he collected from around the world. Derek says, “I want people to see the quality and craftsmanship that our fore fathers put into everything. Peoples of the past designed and built for eternity vs. our disposable society. Every part of SSS Ranch Napa has been meticulous resorted: massive doors and from Buenos Aires, iron fencing from NYC, agriculture pieces from Vermont and the Midwest, lighting from Paris, urns from Chicago, a bar from Brooklyn, hand cut curb stones from San Francisco, etc.”
More amazing details were the family DIY contributions. Alexis’ gown was hand sewn by her own mother, with a flattering boat neckline, and lace cap sleeves that tapered to a low back. Alexis looked stunning. Additionally, the delicious wedding cakes were baked by the bride’s aunt.
It was a classic hot, California summer’s day, filled with a whole lot of love and laughter. Family that had heartwarming things to say, and friends who loved to crack jokes and let loose. Ending the night with a “silent disco” (note: the headphones), these two didn’t let a city noise ordinance stop their party!
